Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Financial Manager, the Cost Accountant plays a critical role in monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the financial performance of the underground mining project. This position ensures that operational expenditures, inventory movements, and production‑related costs are accurately recorded and managed to support informed decision‑making. The Cost Accountant maintains tight financial controls in a fast‑moving, equipment‑intensive environment where cost efficiency is essential to project sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include tracking operational costs against budgets, analyzing variances, monitoring equipment utilization costs, and reviewing expenditure patterns to identify inefficiencies. The role oversees stock valuation, manages cost allocation for maintenance activities, and supports department heads with real‑time cost data for planning and forecasting. Additional duties include preparing detailed cost reports, supporting tender evaluations, conducting periodic audits, reconciling inventory movements, and ensuring compliance with internal financial governance standards.

Qualifications & Experience

A Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) is required, along with a minimum of five years' cost control experience within mining or heavy industry. Strong financial analysis skills, ERP proficiency, and the ability to interpret technical cost drivers (such as fleet maintenance, consumables, explosives, and labor costs) are essential. Experience using RIB Candy and BuildSmart is advantageous.
