Job Summary
Reporting to the Mechanical Foreman, the Boilermaker performs critical fabrication and structural repair work that supports safe and continuous underground operations. This role requires precision welding, heavy-duty steelwork, and repair of ore-handling infrastructure, machinery frames, and high-pressure piping systems within restricted underground environments. The Boilermaker ensures structural integrity across key components that are exposed to intense vibration, corrosion, and impact hazards typical of mechanized development operations.
Key Responsibilities
The role includes interpreting engineering drawings, fabricating structural steel sections, repairing loader and drill rig components, reinforcing ore passes and chutes, and completing high-quality welds under challenging conditions. The Boilermaker conducts inspections to identify wear or structural weaknesses, performs grinding and cutting tasks, and executes urgent repairs during breakdown situations to support production continuity. Additional responsibilities include participating in planned maintenance schedules, assisting in engineering upgrades, and adhering to strict hot‑work and confined‑space safety procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
A Trade Certificate in Welding & Fabrication is required, along with at least 8 years' experience in heavy industrial or underground mining environments. Candidates must demonstrate exceptional welding proficiency, physical resilience, and strong adherence to underground safety policies.
