Job Summary

Reporting directly to the qualified Artisans, the Engineering Assistant provides heavy manual, mechanical, and electrical support during planned maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs. This role contributes significantly to maintaining the availability of underground trackless machines, pumping systems, and fixed assets that sustain mining operations. The position requires strong physical capability, attention to detail, and the willingness to work in hazardous, confined environments alongside senior tradespeople.

Key Responsibilities

The Engineering Assistant assists with stripping, cleaning, and assembling mechanical components, pulling electrical cables, carrying tools and spares, and supporting equipment inspections. Responsibilities include organizing the workshop, cleaning precision components, ensuring tools are accounted for, and helping artisans during installation of pumps, valves, motors, and hydraulic lines. The assistant also handles lubrication tasks, removes debris around work areas, assists with lifting operations, and ensures work zones are barricaded and safe. The role requires following instructions precisely and maintaining a high level of situational awareness underground.

Qualifications & Experience

A Trade Certificate or strong semi‑skilled industrial background is required, with a minimum of three years' experience in heavy engineering or mining maintenance. Physical resilience, safety discipline, and eagerness to develop advanced mechanical and electrical skills are essential.
