Job Summary
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Mining / Engineering Buyer is responsible for procuring specialized mining machinery, technical components, and high‑value consumables essential to keeping underground operations running without interruption. The role requires advanced technical comprehension, the ability to interpret engineering drawings, and strong commercial acumen to manage complex sourcing cycles in a fast‑paced environment. The buyer plays a critical role in minimizing downtime by ensuring that critical spares and equipment reach the site on time and in specification.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include issuing RFQs, evaluating supplier quotations, negotiating commercial terms, and ensuring that purchase orders reflect correct technical specifications, BOM details, and contractual requirements. The buyer maintains accurate procurement records, manages supplier performance, supports tender evaluations, and collaborates with engineering and maintenance teams to validate technical requirements. Additional duties include monitoring inventory risks, identifying cost‑saving opportunities, participating in audits, and supporting continuous improvement of procurement processes.
Qualifications & Experience
A Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Purchasing, or a related field is required, with a minimum of three years' technical buying experience in mining or heavy industry. Proficiency in SAP, Oracle ERP, and the ability to read and interpret engineering documentation are essential.
