Job Summary

Reporting to the Charging Operator, the Charging Assistant provides essential physical and logistical support for the safe execution of the blasting cycle. This role is fundamental to maintaining consistent development advance rates by ensuring that explosives, accessories, and charging equipment are prepared and delivered to the face efficiently and safely. Because the work occurs in high-risk zones, the position requires strict discipline, situational awareness, and unwavering adherence to safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Key tasks include assisting in transporting explosives from designated magazines to active headings, ensuring segregation and regulatory compliance during handling. The assistant prepares charging tools, supports the operation of emulsion pumping units, and assists with priming, cartridge preparation, stemming materials, and cleanup after firing. The role also involves clearing packaging, handling hazardous waste correctly, and maintaining order in charging areas to prevent contamination or misfires. Working continuously alongside the Charging Operator, the assistant must respond quickly to instructions and contribute to maintaining a safe, efficient work environment.

Qualifications & Experience

A Charging Assistant Certificate or explosives blasting related qualification is required, along with strong physical fitness and a demonstrated commitment to underground safety protocols. Previous exposure to blasting operations or heavy underground mining tasks is highly advantageous.
