Job Summary

Reporting to the Lamp Room Supervisor, the Lamp Room Attendant is responsible for the secure issuing, inspection, charging, and maintenance of critical underground safety equipment, including cap lamps, self‑rescuers, gas detection meters, and personnel tracking devices. This role is essential to ensuring that every underground employee enters the mine with fully functional, legally compliant safety gear. The position demands accuracy, organization, and the ability to work in a structured, high‑volume environment where equipment readiness directly influences safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

Daily tasks include preparing equipment prior to each shift, performing functional checks, verifying battery cycles, and recording issuance and returns in both physical and digital systems. The attendant inspects returned equipment, identifies faults or damage, cleans and sanitizes devices, and logs defective units for repair or replacement. Additional responsibilities include managing charging banks, maintaining orderly storage racks, assisting emergency personnel during call‑outs, and ensuring that tracking systems correctly reflect personnel movement. The role requires strict adherence to mine safety regulations and full accountability for all equipment under custody.

Qualifications & Experience

A BGCSE or equivalent qualification is required. Experience working in industrial or mining environments is advantageous. The role requires high attention to detail, strong organizational ability, and uncompromising discipline in handling safety‑critical devices.
