Job Summary
Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Training Manager provides comprehensive strategic leadership over all training, competency, and skills‑development functions across the underground mining operation. Operating in a high‑risk, high‑performance environment, the manager designs and governs the site's full training matrix, ensuring that every employee—from new entrants to senior operators—meets statutory, operational, and technical competency standards. The role demands deep understanding of mechanized mining systems, adult learning methodologies, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Core duties include managing operator licensing programs, overseeing artisan upskilling initiatives, administering statutory MQWM‑compliant safety training, and ensuring all training programs align with Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) requirements. The manager develops annual training strategies, conducts needs analyses, audits training quality, manages internal and external training providers, and ensures readiness for regulatory inspections. Additional responsibilities include maintaining digital training records, forecasting workforce competency gaps, preparing budget proposals, mentoring instructors, and ensuring that training initiatives support production, safety, and organizational growth targets.
Qualifications & Experience
A Degree in Training, Human Resources, or a related technical discipline is required, supported by at least ten years of training leadership experience within mining or heavy industry. Strong knowledge of BQA frameworks, statutory mining training mandates, and competency‑based assessment methodologies is essential. Advanced communication, leadership, and systems‑management skills are required.
