Job Summary

The Person In Charge (PIC) / Miner is a critical statutory appointment under the MQWM Act, reporting directly to the Shiftboss.

Key Responsibilities

The primary legal and operational duty of the PIC is to ensure the absolute safety, structural stability, and preparation of the underground working face prior to the commencement of any mechanized activities. The PIC conducts mandatory, exhaustive pre-start risk assessments, physically examines the hanging wall and sidewalls for loose rock, and actively oversees all drilling, charging, and blasting operations. Ensuring the continuous safety of the assigned crew, maintaining strict compliance with the Explosives Act, and guaranteeing the accurate execution of the engineered drill pattern are daily imperatives.

Qualifications & Experience

The candidate must hold a valid, regulatory-compliant Underground Blasting License or Certificate of Competency. A minimum of five years of proven experience acting as a production or development miner in a mechanized hard-rock environment is required, alongside exceptional hazard identification skills and intimate knowledge of ground control methods.
