Job Description:
Job Summary
Reporting to the Admin Manager, the IT Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the digital and communication infrastructure that supports an advanced mechanized underground mining operation. This position ensures reliable connectivity between surface and underground teams, stabilizes critical networks used for equipment monitoring, and provides responsive technical support across multiple departments. Given the harsh mining conditions, the technician must confidently troubleshoot issues involving ruggedized hardware, operational technology (OT) systems, and hybrid communication networks that are essential for safe and efficient production.
Key Responsibilities
The IT Technician installs, configures, and maintains servers, user workstations, wireless access points, leaky-feeder communication systems, and fiber‑optic lines used for underground telemetry. Daily duties include supporting fleet‑management interfaces, monitoring network health, diagnosing software/hardware faults, securing user access, and resolving connectivity issues affecting production data transfer. The technician also ensures cybersecurity compliance, performs routine backups, assists with system upgrades, and provides user training for new software and digital tools. When underground, the technician must identify and repair damaged communication nodes, replace power supplies, and coordinate with engineering teams to restore network integrity after equipment movement or blasting activities.
Qualifications & Experience
A Diploma or Degree in Information Technology is required, with at least three years of experience in network or systems support. Experience with OT systems, underground communication networks, and rugged industrial hardware is strongly preferred.
